"Many of my movies have strong female leads - brave, self-sufficient girls that don’t think twice about fighting for what they believe in with all their heart. They’ll need a friend, or a supporter, but never a savior. Any woman is just as capable of being a hero as any man.”
"You are a natural."
The following is an essay I wrote for school (already turned in and graded, by the way) detailing my low, low opinion of Catherine Barkley. It was originally turned in in MLA format, but I have re-formatted some things in this post. If anyone wants to offer constructive criticism, feel free!
In A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway, the character of Catherine Barkley is emotionally unhealthy. She shirks her duties as a nurse to be with Henry. She tells him that he is her “religion”. She wants to cut her hair so that she may resemble him more closely. These examples point to an entirely sickobsession with him.
